Arkansas Enacts Strictest Abortion Law In The Country

Arkansas Enacts Strictest Abortion Law In The Country

Arkansas has just enacted the most extreme abortion law in the country – barring abortion at 12 weeks.

Despite the Governor’s veto, both chambers of the legislature voted to override, making it illegal to have an abortion after 12 weeks – still in the first trimester and only shortly after most women will have learned they are pregnant. This ban is two months earlier than any other state in the country. And it comes soon after the legislature banned abortion after 20 weeks.

Certain politicians in Arkansas don’t seem to care that this law is unconstitutional. Nor do they care that this law strips women of their ability to make deeply personal reproductive health decisions.

The Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision affirmed the right to a safe & legal abortion. However, opponents of abortion in Arkansas disregard this ruling in their effort to both remove the right that Roe affords women and to force the Supreme Court to reconsider the constitutionality of abortion. These bans in Arkansas are one more step in their strategy to make all abortions completely illegal.

When Religion Becomes Emotional Abuse

*Deivantart still doesn’t have a share option for WordPress yet, so I am force to copy everything, to make that clear.

Also I’m providing clear credit to the author of what I’m posting, a link to the original journal post by the author herself

I never thought I would find a scarier version of Christian indoctrination then Jesus Camp ([link]). Then I found the video below. It make’s Jesus Camp look absolutely harmless. Oh yeh and they specifically target non-christian children between the ages of 4 and 12 ; or children who aren’t the “right type” of Christian.

Make sure you watch the whole thing. It isn’t lying. It is all factual. This is what these “school clubs” actually teach to children right after the last bell rings… in public schools. You may have to pause the video in some areas to read what it says.

Their curriculum is so terrifyingly horrendous that it nearly brings me to tears at the thought of any child having to hear these things from an adult they trust and believe.

I usually disagree with the statement “Religion is child abuse” but it’s ministries like these that make me second guess my opinion. Anyone who can’t see how these ministries could be emotionally traumatic either didn’t watch the whole video (which uses only the ministries own books and words) or is indoctrinated into this horrifying cult of unnecessary guilt, punishment, and pessimism themselves.

If my child ever where to hear these things. I would take them in my arms, hold them tight, and tell them that everything was ok. That they aren’t an evil person. That every human being makes mistakes, none of us are perfect.

I’d hug my child and tell them: “Even when you pout, even when you slam a door because you’re mad, even when you complain about the food that is given to you (all things the curriculum says are worthy of eternal torture) I love you completely. I may not like these things but they are ok, they are emotional reactions and everyone gets them. Sometimes even Mommy raises her voice when she’s mad. You are a wonderful little boy (or girl), my little boy and you’ve done nothing wrong. You try your best to treat others the way you want to be treated, you even help Mommy when she volunteer’s at (-Insert volunteer place here- because my kids will be doing that from a young age). You are fine just the way you are. Just keep trying your best at all you do and always try to do the right thing. I love you soooooo much. Ok? ”

Anyone who even attempts to emotionally abuse my child like this would get an earful and if they managed to abuse my child before I could shield them from it and it caused my child even a hint of emotional distress I can’t say I wouldn’t punch the person in the face…hard. No one will fuck with my kids on such an emotionally or physically traumatic scale such as this.

Now I’ll say plainly enough that I believe these “clubs” should not be allowed in school. I agree completely agree with Justice Stevens’s dissenting opinion in the Supreme Court Case that allowed these clubs into schools:

“Distinguishing speech from a religious viewpoint, on the one hand, from religious proselytizing, on the other, is comparable to distinguishing meetings to discuss political issues from meetings whose principal purpose is to recruit new members to join a political organization. If a school decides to authorize afterschool discussions of current events in its classrooms, it may not exclude people from expressing their views simply because it dislikes their particular political opinions. But must it therefore allow organized political groups—for example, the Democratic Party, the Libertarian Party, or the Ku Klux Klan—to hold meetings, the principal purpose of which is not to discuss the current-events topic from their own unique point of view but rather to recruit others to join their respective groups? I think not. Such recruiting meetings may introduce divisiveness and tend to separate young children into cliques that undermine the school’s educational mission. School officials may reasonably believe that evangelical meetings designed to convert children to a particular religious faith may pose the same risk.”

And Justice Souter’s dissenting opinion:

“It is beyond question that Good News intends to use the public school premises not for the mere discussion of a subject from a particular, Christian point of view, but for an evangelical service of worship calling children to commit themselves in an act of Christian conversion. The majority avoids this reality only by resorting to the bland and general characterization of Good News’s activity as ‘teaching of morals and character, from a religious standpoint’. If the majority’s statement ignores reality, as it surely does, then today’s holding may be understood only in equally generic terms. Otherwise, indeed, this case would stand for the remarkable proposition that any public school opened for civic meetings must be opened for use as a church, synagogue, or mosque.”
