Some 23 primary schools across the country are set to lose their Catholic Church patronage and will most likely transfer to the multi-denominational Educate Together schools.
The announcement comes following a survey by the Department of Education which questioned parents of students aged up to 12-years in 38 areas across the country. Many parents expressed a preference for an Educate Together patron in 23 of the areas. At present Educate Together operates 65 multi-denominational primary schools around Ireland.

The four men whose accusations led to the resignation of Britain’s leading Catholic cleric are rejecting suggestions that they were part of a “gay cabal” seeking “revenge” for the cardinal’s publicly anti-gay stance.
Cardinal Keith O’Brien resigned last month after claims of inappropriate behavior towards several priests came to light. His four accusers are dismissing reports that quote church sources saying O’Brien was forced to quit by gay priests angry at his hypocrisy about same-sex marriages, the UK Guardian reports.
“This isn’t about people being gay. It’s about abuse of power,” said “Father Peter”, who revealed in the Observer report which broke the story that he had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with the cardinal that led to him needing counseling. “The emotional and psychological power Keith O’Brien had over me was incredible. He was utterly manipulative.”
Curiously, the most vocal segment of Irish society in matters of sex and sexuality are also usually the ones who would prefer if matters of sex and sexuality were never discussed, anywhere, ever.
How’s that for a bit of Irish irony?
It’s because, since the foundation of the state, Ireland has always done a bang up job of providing comprehensive sex education to it’s youth.
Choosing traditional teaching sites like tree huts, bike sheds, piers, abandoned council estates, quiet alleyways, changing rooms, porn on the internet, scout camps and all too often local sacristies, generations of Irish boys and girls have learned the facts of life from their informed elders in countless unexpected ways, occasionally involving non-consensual demonstrations.
Because when you don’t know the facts, its much harder to make informed choices about anything, isn’t it?
But don’t tell that to the nations most conservative parents and religious organizations, because they they can’t see any sign of failure at all.
As you might of heard, St Patrick himself was never actually Irish. It’s true, he wasn’t. He was actually from England (or Wales?), so he might of actually been a Brit. So Sir St Patrick of England, as a teenager of 16, had been captured by the Irish and made into a slave. At the age of about 22 he escaped and went back to England, where he’d plotted and came back as a Bishop who would drive out the Pagans/Celtics (The original Irish) and converted everyone else in the country to Catholicism. – The word “Snake” you see doesn’t actually refer to the reptile-animal ‘snake’, it actually refers to Pagans/Celtics as “Snakes”, so St Patrick drove out the snakes, meaning he drove out those who enslaved him-the original Irish. (Celtic/pagan)
And the day of St Patrick’s Day, is actually the day that St Patrick died!
March 17th 460 AD
I love St Patrick’ Day – very very very much, it is awesome and this bit of history I learned I hope to share with everyone, (and I hope you do too) because I personally find it very interesting and ironic. I was very surprised, but it as they say, truth is often far more stranger (and curious!) than fiction.
Vatican invited Cardinal Keith O’Brien to conclave despite knowledge of sexual allegations by Catholic priests
When news broke this week that Cardinal Keith O’Brien, the head of the Catholic Church in Scotland, had been accused by four priests of sexual exploitation both his critics and supporters were instantly suspicious of the timing.
